Esso, Chiseldon - esso, chiseldon

Mileage : 260

Lunch: The Old Yew Tree, Defynnog, Brecon LD3 8SB (

As August normally has long days and decent weather, we are going to take on a longer ride and return to Wales after last years success. The pace will be progressive but the roads should allow this and we will make good use of the motorway to spend more time on fun roads. Breaks of some sort are planned every hour or so.

We will start from the Esso Petrol station in Chiseldon south of Swindon (fill your tank) ( and head West along the M4 over the Severn bridge to arrive at the fun roads. We start heading up past Chepstow along the Wye Valley towards Monmouth where we will take a break for tea/coffee and fuel if you want. From here we head of into the Brecon Beacons enjoying some spectacular scenery and excellent roads.

Lunch should be around 12:30 at The Old Yew Tree in Defynnog before we move onto some of the smaller roads through the Brecons heading south west. There will be single tracks (no green lanes), big hairpins and almost certainly sheep wandering around.

As we start to head back east we’ll have a petrol stop at around 140 miles and then one last big twisty road before we pick up the M4 around Caerphilly and head back to our starting point.
