OCTOBER
RRRIDE-OUT
Well, the rumour is true. On Sunday the 1st October we will go in search of THE ARMAGEDDON BURGER or THE BIG BOY at Wessons, aka Ogri, Cafe at Horam, East Sussex. This will be a South Downs Spectacular ride involving morning coffee at Bury Hill, lunch at Wessons and afternoon tea or delightful desserts at the Nelsons American Diner at Kingsclear. So we will meet up at our usual rendezvous of Tesco's carpark, Winnall outside Winchester at 8.45 am for a prompt 9.00 am start.
We will travel south to pick up the Morestead Road to Corehampton - on doctor's orders - and then north on the A32 to West Meon where we will cut through East Meon to the A272 past Petersfield. Travelling southeast to South Harting on the B2146 and towards Chichester via the B2141/A286. At Lavant we will take to the unmarked lanes past Goodwood Racecourse continuing east until we reach the A285.
Before reaching the village of Duncton we will take to the lanes again in an easterly direction passing through Bignor and on to the A29 and Bury Hill for our coffee stop. After a short comfort break we will continue cutting across country to the B2139 at Amberley, on to Storrington and crossing the A24 to Washington.
We will go round Steyning on the by-pass turning norteast towards Henfield Road to pick up the lanes passing under the panoramic Fulking Escarpment towards Devels Dyke. A short burst south on the A23 and on to the A273 at Pyecombe where we turn north again.
Turning on to the B2112 we will head for Ditchling, continuing to Locksbridge on the B2192/2102 and more unmarked lanes through to Horam. If you are not lost by now, you can have a great lunch at Wessons Cafe which is in the High Street. The afternoon route is much more simple, we head north on the A267 and then take the A272 all the way back to Petersfield.
Then, we will head north on the B3006 to Alton and then the A339 to Basingstoke and on to Kingsclere, our final destination at the Nelsons Diner. Please come prepared with a full tank of petrol, although there will be fuel stops to suit the smallest tank capacity, some 100 miles at a strech. Hmmm, that will be the HP2 then! Your pilot for the day will be John Barnes on the silver 1200GS and Captain Sensible will be back-marking on either the HP2 or the sunny yellow 1150GS. See you all then....
